The Chevin Cricket Club was originally formed in 1993 under the auspices of the Derby Focus Activities Club and assumed the current name in 2002, when it became independent of it’s previous association but retained the same membership. The current membership is generally from within the Derby City area and to the north and east.
The original set of rules agreed in 1993 are still in use and state that all members are to be rotated for team selection and to be given equal opportunities in 20/20 matches to bat and bowl regardless of ability. The rotation policy rewards the most loyal members and the batting order is now computerised from match statistics.
There are weekly 20/20 and occasional Sunday fixtures from May to September, winter nets are held and Club shirts and caps are available. The Club website was set up in 2007 and features the latest match reports.
The Club has never had a definitive home ground due to the widespread location of members and has utilised several council facilities in the City of Derby. The growth of junior cricket has made difficult the hiring of league cricket grounds and an agreement with Duffield CC during some previous seasons has now expired. Away matches are now actively encouraged where good facilities can be obtained and usually occur within the membership area.
Tour matches to date have included visits to Sannox CC on the Isle of Arran in 2006 and Clun CC in Shropshire in 2008.
The after match drinks now always features an infamous Fines Meeting where all members are fined a capped amount for incompetence during the match and other misdemeanours. The money is saved to the end of the season and used at one of the regular social events held during the winter months to maintain social contact.
As ever we hope to maintain our social team spirit within and to obtain both respect and friendship from our opponents. We look forward to enjoyable cricket matches and to upholding the spirit of cricket for many years to come.
